I have taught graduate and undergraduate courses at universities in Europe and the United States. Courses subjects include among others Atlantic History, Early American History, and Comparative Slavery. Some of my most recent courses include Historical Thought and Writing, Silences and Biases in the Archives, and the Spatial Turn

In my courses, I incorporate projects such as the unessay and poster presentations, and, when possible, visits to local archives, museums, or historical sites (either as a class or students individually) to encourage exploration of the history that surrounds us.

In 2019, I received UNO’s Faculty Excellence in Teaching and Teaching Innovation Award for teaching innovation and effectiveness.

Recent Courses

  • Spatial Turn

This course examines the ways in which this “spatial turn” has opened up new research methods in the humanities and social sciences. In particular, it investigates how a consideration of space, place, and geography helps bring new perspectives to historical research.

  • Silences and Biases in the Archives

This course explores the silences and biases in the archives. It looks at the ways in which archives are created, the politics of preserving records, and the biases in these repositories.

  • Early American History

This course explores the history of Early America. It examines the cultures and communities in the areas that are today the United States and Canada before 1820. Using predominantly recently produced scholarship in Early American history, it also explores the state of historical research in Early American History.
